Camden-Clark Memorial
Hospital has been influential in setting the pace for cancer
management in the Mid-Ohio Valley for more than 30 years.
Consequently, the Community Comprehensive Cancer Center
is a reflection of the hospitals commitment to provide
the finest in cancer care.
The Cancer Center is more than high-tech equipment and
advanced treatment procedures. A major advantage is the
experience of the staff of highly qualified physicians.
While the Cancer Center has been serving the community for
30 years, the current staff of physicians has more than
85 years of service in cancer care.
Recently, two of the Centers physicians celebrated
milestones of service to Camden-Clark's cancer treatment.
More than simply gala events, the anniversary observations
provided an opportunity to not only thank the two physicians
for their dedication, but also to celebrate the lives that
have been saved and to reflect on the changes in cancer
treatment over the years.
Dr. Nik Shah celebrated his 25-year anniversary with CCMH
while Dr. Srini Vasan celebrated his 20-year anniversary.
Both anniversaries were celebrated at the hospital and both
Shah and Vasans office areas were adorned with balloons
and banners from colleagues, employees and friends.
Dr. Shah related that the changes hes seen in the
past 25 years have been significant with regard to new drugs
and in minimizing patient discomfort. Today we are
much more able to control the side-effects of cancer treatments,
said Shah.
For Shah, the anniversary is less about his personal accomplishments
than it is about his satisfaction in doing what he loves
to do: treat patients. While it was gratifying to
be recognized, I dont like to dwell on the 25-year
anniversary, said Shah. For me, reaching this
milestone is rewarding as it represents a culmination of
sacrifice and dedication to pursue one's life work.
Dr. Vasan remembers his choice to come to Camden-Clark 20
years ago as a positive one. Although there have been
many significant changes in cancer care, the program in
place here 20 years ago was very sophisticated, said
Vasan. I came here because the cancer program was
as good as any that existed elsewhere, and weve continued
to keep pace in terms of quality.
Vasan has many memories of his experience here most notably
when the cancer program moved to its present location in
the CCMH Medical Office Building. Of his personal reflections
concerning his anniversary, Dr. Vasan, like Dr. Shah, is
grateful to be doing the work he loves. I still love
to come to work in the morning and I hate to leave at the
end of the day, said Vasan.
Since both doctors recently celebrated milestones of experience,
they agreed about the importance of having an experienced
and well-qualified staff. Like any field, oncology
is constantly changing, said Dr. Shah. Having
an experienced staff is a benefit and improves the quality
of patient care.
The multidisciplinary nature of our cancer program
requires professionals with experience in a variety of programs,
said Dr. Vasan. With our combined experience that
exceeds more than 85 years, the cancer program at CCMH is
well-equipped to focus on treating patients professionally
as well as compassionately.
For those who have been treated by Drs. Shah and Vasan as
well as the rest of the cancer center's staff, that
experience has definitely been a life-changing one.
